About

Bridgetown’s winter festival was launched in 2011 as a way to celebrate the local Shire’s people, businesses, history and lifestyle through art, culture, music, food, exhibits and events. Originally known as the Bridgetown in the Winter Festival, the event has rebranded and undergone a name change inspired by the town’s unofficial title ‘Fridgetown’ – a cheeky reference to its frigid temperatures and status as the Winter Capital of Western Australia.

Known for cool, crisp, misty mornings, rolling green hills and the warmth of country hospitality, Bridgetown and neighbouring Greenbushes, are an ideal location to rest, relax and take in some of the winter activities on offer. For those who prefer sitting beside a roaring fire, keeping toasty, there are also plenty of restaurants and cafe’s offering warming menus and drinks accompanied by local music and entertainment.

The Festival as a whole is overseen by the Bridgetown Greenbushes Tourism Association (BGTA) which elects a voluntary Festival Committee each year to oversee the organisation and marketing.

For event details please check out our ‘Events’ page and follow along on social media @fridgetownfest for updates throughout the year. We’d love you to share your own experiences with us, so please tag us with #fridgetownfest if you visit our beautiful region this winter.

About the BGTA

The Bridgetown Greenbushes Tourism Association (BGTA) is a voluntary organisation that was founded in the 1970s in order to diversify the economy of the Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes.

Today the BGTA continues to advocate on behalf of the Shire’s tourism interests, fostering a successful and sustainable environment that enables the entire community to enjoy a positive and progressive future with a truly healthy social fabric.

Each year the BGTA organises events and activities that promote local business and attract people to the area. In the past, this has included lobbying for and administrating the Visitors' Centre, establishing a network of trails and scenic drives, representing the towns in regional marketing bodies and establishing the Blues at Bridgetown Festival.

More recently, the BGTA established Fridgetown Fest (originally as the Bridgetown in the Winter Festival) and created and ran the Banquet on the Bridge event. It has also been tasked with the redevelopment and expansion of the Brierley Jigsaw Gallery - a unique community asset. The BGTA continues to lobby the Shire in regards to matters that directly affect tourism; it financially supports local arts initiatives, develops new events, such as Puzzletown, responding to local interest and tourism potential, shares relevant information with its members, and collaborates with businesses and bodies that have shared goals.

The BGTA exists and operates to serve the following groups:

  • Visitors and holiday makers
  • Residents and holiday home owners
  • Potential new residents

The vision of the BGTA is to foster the widespread recognition of the Bridgetown and Greenbushes community as being an attractive and safe place in which to visit, live and operate a business.
